Anime's Best/I'm still alive

Thu Mar 1, 2007, 10:41 PM
  • Mood: Stumped
Wow, it has been well over a year now since I have made any sort of sign that I am alive here at DA, kind of sad when you look at it. Hell, I bet a lot of thought I packed up and left for good. Well if you’re reading this then you might be pleased to know that I am still alive and kicking, just not like I used to. Things are continuously busy for me it seems and since I am not in any kind of writing course anymore, it makes it harder and harder to write things on my free time because I seem to be just drained at the end school and such. But that does not hold me from viewing work that is posted by everyone. Though I no longer comment on work any more due to time constraints, I do take great pleasure in viewing everyone’s work.

But enough about that now, what brings me to this post is something that I have been pondering for a long time. Today I took sometime out of my day and got a chance to read some manga’s and watch some anime since it must have been a month since I last got a chance to. As I was watching through random episodes, I found myself come across One Piece and as I was watching I started thinking to myself. Just random things at first but then I found myself thinking more and more into it. What I was wondering was, in anime/manga, which character is the most memorable one? Like who really pulls out those defining moments in the series that makes you look at him and go “wow”. Now, I know most people when thing like this our ask, names like Sasuke and Naruto, Spike(Cowboy Bebop), or even Kenshin (Samurai X) are the first to come to mind in most cases but I wanted to dive a little deeper and look to see what else I could find. After thinking for a couple of minutes I came to the conclusion that my choice would be Luffy(One Piece). Now I know that is an odd choice because lets face it, Luffy certainly isn’t the brightest character in anime but I have seen and read all of One Piece to date and every time there was something big going on Luffy pulled it off with such grace and emotion that you can’t help but be drawn in by what he says. I mean examples of this are clearly shown in the recent events at the war in Enies Lobby. His speech to Robin has to be one of thee greatest moments in anime I have seen. But not only that, when Nami was finally crushed by Arlong, what Luffy does and says you can help but feel good.

This brings me to the point of this post. If you are reading this please answer because I would really like to hear everyone’s opinion on this for my interest and too see if maybe I either skipped over someone or am being one dimensional.

1. Who do you think is the most memorable character in anime/manga?
2. What do you think is the most memorable moment in anime/manga?

I’ll post my answers to this in my comment section, but I look forward to what people have to say about this.

Till next time

The Holidays

Sat Jan 7, 2006, 3:06 PM
Alright, another year has finally come and gone. This was for a lack of a better word, interesting. Plenty of new experiences, hardships, pains, friends, and fun occurred throughout the entire year making it the most active one in recent memory. Recapping everything that happened throughout the whole year would be long, long fucking post. There are some highlights that are worth noting including my friends kegger in August (I don’t know how but I ended knowing everyone that was there), smoking my first cigar (there have been more that followed), Ty’s birthday, frequent poker nights, and the site of G-unit getting drunk for the first time (and certainly not the last time). To be honest, this year wasn’t really anything big till the last week of the year.

First up, Christmas. For my grandpa just passing away, it was actually one of the best Christmas’ the family has had in years. The highlight of that day had to be when I got my PSP from my parents. To be honest, I didn’t think they would get it for just because of the huge cost of it. So that was a delightful surprise that left me speechless but I think brother and I gave our mom the biggest surprise when she opened up her gift and found a picture of us with Santa, something that we haven’t had done in years. So she was quite happy with that and I am pretty sure my Dad was pleased with his bottle of booze and Pink Floyd DVD (tried to recreate his younger days when he would do drugs and go to concerts by bands like Pink Floyd). So all in all, Christmas was a good day.

Boxing Day was another eventful day to say the least. How much I spent that day is irrelevant but let’s just say I was a little spending whore. Two things that I was proud that bought that were the Sin City: Recut and Extended and the Neon Genesis Evangelion box set. Other then that, G-unit saved my ass from getting destroyed by fixing my family computer. That sums up that day because I really didn’t much after that. I was just way too tired to do anything else.

Now coming to the end of the year, I look upon New Years. Before anything started or people headed over to Ty’s house, Ty and I took a trip over to Sherway put my “Thin Blood” theory to the test and pick up some more supplies for the night (which eventually became known as “The Wall”). So around 5ish, the first beer was opened and Mike, Ty, and I started drinking. Everything was pretty calm until people started getting impatient waiting for Noah to come so we could play poker, except when Noah finally got here, there was the problem with a lack of chair. Thanks to Mike’s quick thinking and assistance from Ty, chair were found although, I really don’t know how or where they got them but they got the chairs none-the-less. So just as poker finally started, pizza came which resulted in the game being delayed even further. So the plan was to start the game around 8:30 and well by the time we actually started the game, it was almost 10:00. At 10:05, I was eliminated from the game but honestly really didn’t give a damn because I met someone else to hang with. It was kind of embarrassing though because she would ask if I remembered her name and for the life of me I couldn’t remember her name. Sure I can remember it now but that doesn’t help me at all now since I forgot to ask for an email or number. (I know I fucked up royal) Well then came the New Years which I must say I am off to a much better start then last year. So everything was going good for everyone. People were still playing poker, I was outside with some people smoking a cigar and then, the inevitable happened. Matt, Ty’s friend, threw up all over the poker table and caused the game to come to a screeching halt and end to the game. Once that happened, everyone’s buzz was just killed for the night. After that, everyone was sure Matt was dead but his faint giggles proved us otherwise. After all that and everyone pretty much left Ty, Alyce, and I went for a walk. When we got back Maritn had just disappeared and apparently it took him an hour to way around Ty’s block. The cause of this was every five steps he needed to sway in the wind. (weird yes?) Well if you didn’t find that weird, maybe his obsession for cheese or Meghan’s Moms cookies was. The highlight of the night had to be what we did to Ryan. It is true, it really was Ryan’s Day as we ended up drawing a big penis on his cheek and then made him a nice pink thong with shaving gel. Either way, I’d say New Years was pretty good time and we should do it again sometime.

Now to the Friday that just passed. This was an interesting time to say the least. First, Ty and I traveled to Mac which took an hour and half at least to get there, no thanks to the bus driver. (Ty, I think u were right. He was retarded) Once we got to Mac, the duffle man was welcomed with open arms and it was a non-stop party as we proceed to drink at 6:30. There really was too much going on that night to recall but there were something’s you won’t forget like the fires that were started or the huge duffle bag full of booze that we brought up. One thing that confused me though was I just started punching my friend Ty. I don’t remember the reason why I was but I punched him pretty good like 5 – 7 times. By 8 pm, the booze was running on empty some me and two other guys made a run to the LCBO were I spent $106 on more booze. Now I thought that would have been a waste but the people there were really nice and I made $75 back. On top of that I still have a lot of the booze that I bought, talk about a sweet deal. As for the other people apparently Adam ran around trying to do Kung-fu with the only Asian guy on the floor. Martin kept playing the guitar when he was drunk for his “interest”, which I gotta say; he played pretty well seeing how he was drunk. (Martin I did what I could at that time, you better hit that now) As for Ty, there was a secret plan going on for him and someone so that was the on going struggle for me and someone else. If it actually worked, I don’t know what he did when I fell asleep. After all that, it was like 5 or 6 am and I passed out in the Common Room using my shirt as a pillow. The next day was pretty fucked up. The ride home was interesting. Adam, Ty, and I were all seriously hung over so getting to the GO station was like a chore. Everything was going good till Ty bought a bottle of juice. Once he got on the bus, you could slowly see him deteriorate. Towards the end of the bus ride, his head was planted firmly on the back of the seat in front of him. Once we got on the train, that was it by the time we got to the second stop, Ty ended up puking in the garbage can on the train, although not all of it made it into the can. By the time we got to our stop, he was better and managed to get home with out any more incidents. Now I am just sitting around, eating Hamburger Helper and Pemeal Bacon on a bun, and recovering from the night that was.

Well, that is all that happened over this holiday. I hope everyone one has a good New Year and a safe one.

I am out. Later.

Hello

Sat Apr 23, 2005, 3:58 PM
Hey everyone, I just stopping by to let you all no that i am still alive and well. I just haven't been able to get to da for a long time now but hopefully I can change that soon. I guess a big reason that i haven't been around though is that i haven't had anything to post for a long long time, I guess it could be writers block I am not too sure. I have been doing something to entertain myself though, so that is something good. Thanks to downloading, I have managed to see some really interesting animes as of late. These anime's include Noir, .hack//sign, Gundam Seed,Turn A Gundam, Gundam X, Bleach, Shaman King,Mobile Suit Gundam and Full Metal Alchemist. Within these titles, there were some really amazing series as well as some really dissappointingones as well. I guess I will give a short opinion about each. If you don't feel like readings them that is cool, I hope to post something soon enough.

Noir: A real beauty of an anime. This series focuses more on a story line then non-stop flashy guns fights, althought the gun fights are pretty crazy anyways. I thought that it was a real surprise on how this story molded together. An impressive and suspenseful storyline that is certainly worht a look at.

.hack//sign: I guess it is not much of a secret that I am a huge fan of .hack, so I was expecting alot from this series seeing how it was a prequel to the video games, and boy did it deliver. I couldn't tear myself away from it. This is one of the series I hope to own by the end of the summer. Once agian, it is worth alook at but I suggest that if you do take a look at it, watch abit more then 1 or 2 episodes cause it sets up the whole story in the first couple and may take awhile to get into.

Gundam Seed: This series was really disappointing to me. I felt alittle robbed after watching this series because there was nothing new or exciting about it. It had all been done before in Mobile Suit Gundam and Gundam Wing. The only reason why I continued to watch the series though was because the fight seen were pretty impressive so wanted to see if they would evolve or not. They kindof did but not really. Anyways, I could say more about it but I won't. I just leave it at dissappointing.

Turn A Gundam: This was really surprising. It isn't your typical Gundam series, infact it is very very interesting how everything goes in it. This is the first Gundam to have a original story that wasn't somewhat stolen for the first Gundam series. I say if you are looking for thing to watch, give this ashot. I say you maybe alittle surprised on how solid this anime is.

Gundam X: Possibly one the best Gundam's I have seen to date. It revolves around the theory of the "Newtypes" and as the story progresses, more and more is revealed about "Newtypes". This was simply stunning this anime and I was really really pleased with the whole deal. This is another anime that I want to purchase at some point.

Mobile Suit Gundam: I am ashamed to say that iit is only now that I have seen the first Gundam series anime. I am shamed and desserved to be beatin. All I'll say is that if you are a Gundam fan and still haven't seen the original, your not a Gundam fan.

Bleach: This series isn't lisenced yet but trust me, it will be very soon. Very Very soon. Another stunning anime that should be seen by everyone. I can' say much about it cause the series is still on going but right now, it is a must see.

Shaman King: You'd be surprised on how good this anime, as long as you don't watch it in english. I am sorry but this anime has been rape in the ass hard. It is really sad because it is such a good anime when it isn't in english. I really do want to buy this series but it won't be worth it because the english version is just horrible and it is sad to see. I want to do a rant about 4kids but not right now. Still, if you can see it in Japanese, do yourself a favor and see it.

Full Metal Alchemist: My God this anime was something else. I don't know what else I can say about it. It was just a work of art. It is probably one of the best animes of all time and I would say it is even better then Cowboy Bebop (another amazing series). I would buy this series in a split second if it wasn't so pricey. If see any anime at all, it should be this one. Plus there is a movie being released to complete the series this summer. ^_^

Well that is all for the anime and such. I could actually provide a better description and whatnot but that would take a lot of time.

On a side note, it seems I have a subscrpition to DA for a week. Interesting. And I hope to start commenting and viewing your stuff soon.

Till next time Later

The Month of Despair

Thu Feb 3, 2005, 9:05 AM
Well it is that time of year again. Out of the entire year, this has to be my least favorite month. Mostly because I am not a fan of the whole Valentines Day stuff. I never really celebrated or done anything with anyone on that day. I just think of it as another day were I sit at home and watch TV. This year though maybe alittle different for the first time though. I am actually thinking of abandoning my shut-in life style and try to go out. I may take someone to see the movie Finding Neverland, which I have nothing about great things about, but who knows. There is still plenty of time ahead of me to figure it out.

Anyways, another big problem with this month is the coming mid-terms.-_- God how I dispise them. This semesters mid-terms are not gonna be a piece of cake like last time either. Right now the only class that I am not after of is my Wired Writing class. I am doing great in that class so no worries, but as for everything else, I am pretty sure I am fucked. It bad enough that I can't understand wat my teacher says in one of my class but everything just seems to be made very complex. Maybe I am making abig deal out of this shot for nothing but who knows. Another thing that is bugging me at school happens to the teacher I don't understand. She is determined to start a war with me and all I can say is bring it on. I'll be ready. So far she has called me a "lair" and a "moron" yet I am one of the top students in her class. I dunno why she would want to start a war with me, but if she starts something, I swear that I'll be the one to finish it.

Anyways, that ends my relative useless rant but what can you do.

Well till next time,

My Goals For 2005

Sun Jan 2, 2005, 1:53 PM
Well a new year is well on its way and like most people, I figure that I should set-up some goals to help make this year a hell of alot better then the one that passed. Sure there are the obivious ones that people make, like to drink less alcohol or become more involved in the community, but unless hell freezes over that ain't happening. But I do have some goals that come somewhat along those lines. So without any real delay here they are.

1. Become less offensive - This is just in general whether it is race or sex, I just want to stop being offensive to people.

2. Make some friends at school - I have no friends at my new school, I think it is time I should make some.

3. Get my G-2 - I need to start driving

4. Stay on the honor roll - This is the first time I have been on the honor roll, I'd like to stay on it.

5. Remain drug free - enough said

6. Stop acting like an ass - enough said

7. Exercise at least 3 times a week - I am getting fat, I need to start getting in shape again.

8. Beat Star Ocean - It has been 6 months, I think that is way to long to take to beat a game.

9. Buy the new System Album - No matter what the cost, I must have.

10. Being slapped less - So far I am off to a worse start then last years.

11. Keep my commenting up to date - enough said.

Well this is the list of goals for me. I'll try to keep updating with my progress but I guarntee nothing. Anyways, if you have some goals and want to share, please feel free to do.

Untill next Time, Later
